Day 2 of GMA has now come to an end and I must say I feel like a better person after living it. We were able to participate in a lot of great interviews, ate some delicious tacos, hung out with some friends, and play a pretty fun rock show. Not bad for one day of work.
A pretty crazy thing happened to me today that was slightly embarassing, but mostly just painful. We had a few minutes between interviews, so the band decided to check out a few of the booths that were lining the halls. One merchant was selling in-ear monitor earbuds along with custom molded ear buds things. Pivitplex has recently converted to an in-ear system, and we were interested in upgrading to molded earbuds, so we all decided to get a mold done of our ears. In hindsight, my biggest mistake was waiting until last to take my turn. This, unfortunately, made me very aware that the process was fairly uncomfortable - it involved shoving a foamy disc very deep into my ear canal, and then injecting some sort of goo that hardens in the shape of my ear. Now, no one is sure as to why things happened as they did, but shortly after the very nice man poked the foam disc into my right ear, I began feeling a very painful sensation, followed by a very faint feeling, which turned into lots of sweating, and finally ended in me having to sit down against the wall while the rest of my band-mates frantically fanned my face. Needless to say, they didn't get the mold taken. The funny part is there were several other people waiting to get the same thing done. But after I got through, there was no one near their booth. I feel kind of bad about the negative advertisement, but I really couldn't help it. By the way, I hate needles too and will pretty consistently faint when having any type of bloodwork done.
Luckily, I was able to recover quickly so we could run over and play our second and final showcase at 12th & Porter. The venue was a lot of fun and we were able to play with some pretty cool acts, including our good friends, Jonah33. They definitely played an incredible set, and I was glad we could see it.
Well, we have a pretty early morning tomorrow, so it's time for me to get some sleep. I'm hoping for a pain-free tomorrow, and so should you.
