WORTH CHECKING OUT
Worth Dying For, a worship band for The Stadium—a youth ministry based in Modesto, Calif.—is working to expand its mission with the recent release of its self-titled debut album. Filled with guitar-driven rock anthems interspersed with sincerely sung ballads, this album fits perfectly in the world of contemporary Christian music. The band itself states this as its goal, proclaiming that the members desire a revolution within youth ministry.
Lyrically, Worth Dying For reflects the typical praise band. The band’s message is uplifting and straightforward; the members know what they want to talk about, and they spell it out pretty simply. They’re calling for a change in the way America’s youth view Christianity. They want young people to be excited about their faith, and they want them to be ready to show it.
As far as instrumentation goes, the record is solid. Though not the most original stuff ever heard, it most certainly breaks some new ground for worship music. There is enough variety in sound to make the album, as a whole, interesting with “Revolution,” “Crazy” and “At Your Cross” working as standout tracks. The vocal work is quite stellar as well and the band’s best feature. Lead vocalists Christy Johnson and Sean Loche share the duties and intertwine their voices nicely to create upbeat and rather beautiful melodies that progress as the songs build.
While Worth Dying For’s debut isn’t breaking a ton of new ground, it’s certainly worth checking out for those interested in worship music that goes a bit beyond the genre’s standard sound.
