SCORE

WORTH BUYING

Listening to Worth Fighting For is like drinking a good cup of coffee—rich, soulful vocals swirled with sweet spiritual awakenings and pungent conviction. It’s also a delightful sequel to his sophomore album; a hopeful continuation of the themes of redemption that threaded through Saved.

The opener, “The One Thing,” is a sprightly anthem sure to find a home with pop fans, with its bright vocal and captivating guitar riff. Barfield covers deeper fodder on “Singer Not the Song,” where he acknowledges “Maybe worship is more about reaching out than reaching up.” However, it’s on “Love is Not a Fight” where he sets himself apart as a musician. Here the combination of lyrical sensibility, musical accents and vocal mastery achieve near perfection on a ballad that will surely become a hit love song.
