T.D. Jakes presents God's Leading Ladies, companion album to best-selling book
|
“To become a leading lady,” writes Bishop T.D. Jakes in his empowering new best-selling book, God's Leading Lady: Out of the Shadows and Into the Light (G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 2002), you must raise the curtain and step forward… It is your time to soar!”
In the spirit of understanding, ministering to women who are wounded inside and hurting, Bishop T.D. Jakes presents God's Leading Ladies. This soaring collection of newly recorded songs -- ranging from traditional gospel melodies and worship ballads to pop and Urban contemporary tunes -- gathers the multi-platinum award winning talents of Patti LaBelle, Shirley Murdock, Kelly Price, and Ann Nesby (of Sounds of Blackness).
Also featured on this soul-stirring get-together are a bevy of today’s most accomplished female singers on the Christian front, including Helen Baylor, Janna Long (of Avalon), Stacie Orrico, Dottie Peoples, and -- exclusively convened for the first time ever -- The Winans Women: Angie, Debbie, Mom, and Vickie. The album is set to arrive in stores November 19 on T.D. Jakes’ Dexterity Sounds record label, his joint venture label with EMI Gospel based in Nashville.
Only the galvanizing presence of Bishop T.D. Jakes -- named the best preacher in America by Time Magazine, and “one of the top five evangelists most frequently cited by scholars, theologians, and evangelical leaders” could have provided the platform for this historic assembly of female singers.
Indeed, many of the artists’ own personal stories, as their fans have come to know, may have once reflected the same predicaments that the Bishop addresses in his latest book -- whose themes have been mirrored in the song selections as well. In this way, the album reflects such thought provoking issues raised in the book as the various ways in which women battle among themselves; moving out from behind the masks of what family and popular culture dictate as successful or beautiful; exploring the limitations that men impose upon women as well as the limitations that women place on themselves, and developing strategies to break those binds; measuring the cost of leadership to family as women strive to maintain grace while pursuing their own career; managing life’s outtakes, mistakes, and devastating losses; recognizing and handling what Bishop Jakes calls “fatal attractions”; and a myriad of other challenges.
God's Leading Ladies, in conjunction with the God's Leading Lady book, the 26th book Bishop Jakes has written since 1995, marks the third time that his writings are in the marketplace with a companion album.
The album's track listing is as follows:
