Third Day kicks off Fall leg of Come Together Tour with more Habitat support
|
Third Day kicked off the fall leg of its record-breaking Come Together Tour Thursday, September 19 in Toledo, Ohio. The tour, impacting 25 markets through October, welcomes back its Essential Records label mate, Paul Colman Trio, as a special guest. Also joining the tour for the first time is Forefront band Tait, fronted by dc Talk member Michael Tait. The tour played to nearly 14,000 fans on the first weekend’s dates.
The band is as passionate about its support of Habitat for Humanity as it is about its music and message. Third Day continues its commitment to the organization by donating a portion of its ticket sales throughout the fall tour. It’s not all about raising money though; a great deal of emphasis is placed on education and awareness. While on the road, members of Third Day take part in as many home-builds as possible in an effort to impact all three facets.
In addition, Third Day meets with pastors and youth leaders from local area churches across denominations. “It’s a time for Third Day to share [its] vision -- inform and educate -- these key leaders on what Habitat for Humanity is all about,” states Jim Butler, Habitat for Humanity tour representative. “If we are to get the church to respond to help those in need, we need to start with those that lead the church. We are encouraged by the leaders that are responding from the churches; we are averaging about 35 pastors and youth leaders per night.”
On Saturday in Akron, Ohio, before performing at the Akron Aeros Ball Park, the band spent the day helping build a home with the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
“It’s our way of getting to spend time with some amazing people and an organization whose work we wholeheartedly believe in. We want to get more involved as people helping people. Putting up sheetrock or painting a room in someone’s new home -- that’s rewarding,” comments bass player Tai Anderson.
Throughout the spring tour, Third Day not only raised nearly $170,000 for Habitat but also participated in numerous home-builds, including one with former president Jimmy Carter in South Africa. The group has committed to complete a total of eight homes worldwide. For further information the non-profit ecumenical Christian housing ministry, visit www.habitat.org.
