Hezekiah Walker to release new album recorded at Radio City Music Hall
|
When a New York Times reporter attended a concert by Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the headline that ran the next week read, "Stirring Souls With Sound and Vision." And on August 20, the audio recording of that event will hit stores titled as Family Affair Part II - Live From Radio City Music Hall.
Coming fresh off the heels of his second Grammy win as Best Gospel Choir for the project, Love Is Live!, Walker will seek to build on the success of the first Family Affair album, which garnered accolades such as Album of the Year at the GMWA Excellence Awards.
The New York Times review of Family Affair Part II - Live From Radio City Music Hall was awash in adjectives and compliments. The more than four-hour event was chronicled as the paper described Walker as having "built a small gospel empire and helped the music shift to something resembling hip-hop... but he [Walker] displays one crucial element that much hip-hop lacks: a performance ethic." The paper goes on: "His Love Fellowship Crusade Choir, nearly 200 strong, has an overwhelming power, both in sound and vision... [and] stirring singing."
Formed in 1995, Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir started singing with just twelve members. They released their first recording in 1987, and garnered their first Grammy Award for the 1995 project, Live In Atlanta at Morehouse College. They have recorded with some of the top names in both mainstream and gospel music including Will Smith, Blackstreet, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Luther Vandross, and Shirley Caesar.
Family Affair Part II - Live From Radio City Music Hall will include one new studio track in addition to the songs recorded live. Produced by Dan Cleary, the new project will include gospel as well as praise and worship favorites such as "What A Mighty God We Serve." A new tune called "We Made It," addresses faith, hope, and perseverance in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
