International tour for Steven Curtis Chapman
|
Steven Curtis Chapman, who won a monumental 50th Dove Award at the 37th Annual GMA Music Awards on April 5, is already plotting his next move: a 20-city international concert tour followed by a month long mission trip and then a return to the recording studio.
On April 24, Chapman and his band depart for a series of overseas performances that will include stops in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, and China. Following the shows in China, the singer and his family will spend a month working in Beijing orphanages. In recent years, the Chapman family has adopted three daughters from China.
Upon returning to the United States, Chapman will go directly into a recording studio to begin work on his next album, the follow-up to his GRAMMY Award-winning 2004 release, ALL THINGS NEW.
As mentioned, Chapman received the 50th Dove Award of his remarkable career this month for contributing to the Special Event Album winner, MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. He holds the record for being awarded more Dove honors that any other artist in the history of modern Christian music. Among those recognitions thus far are nine awards for Songwriter of the Year.
Chapman's songwriting was highlighted at the Dove Awards ceremony, where fellow artists David Crowder, Jeremy Camp, Mark Hall (Casting Crowns), and Mac Powell (Third Day) collaborated to perform the hits "For The Sake Of The Call," "More To This Life," "Magnificent Obsession," "I Will Be Here," and "Dive." Chapman received a standing ovation and was visibly moved by the surprise tribute.
