The Mercy Me GMA Elevator Incident: Revealed!

Readers of my GMA Week report may have noticed the fact that I saw Mercy Me stuck in an elevator during the week. WYLV-Love89, in Knoxville, has sent along a first-hand report of the incident, along with a nice photograph:

I guess by now everyone has heard about Mercy Me and the elevator incident? If not here's the scoop. Two unsuspecting staff members of WYLV-Love89 Knoxville (namely GM David Wells and Promotion Director Marisa Lykins) got on the elevator at floor 23 of the Renassaince. A few floors down a multitude of Mercy Me members and friends got on in quite the jovial mood. Around floor 16 the doors opened once again where Mercy Me convinced two more people who initially had no intent of joining us to do so (mistake #1). After a round of applause we began to descend once more. Somewhere around floor two we stopped but the doors did not open. Not sensing any real panic Mercy Me for some reason found the idea of jumping up and down and that jarring us loose since we weren't up on a higher floor a good idea (mistake #2). This eventually worked BUT we ended up sublevel - below floor one and the doors still would not open. After much sweating (glassed-in elevator, good sized guys) and finding the red "Bat Phone" and calling for help, we were pried loose and stepped up about a foot and a half to safety and the applause of was seemed like hundreds that were waiting on the elevator. Always in "promotion mode" Marisa asked one of the guys with a camera phone to snap a picture and email it to her and Taa-Daa!
