Sandtown to be profiled on BET special

With the release of its new album, Based On A True Story, last month, Gotee Records choir Sandtown is securing an increasing number of high profile opportunities. The inner city children’s choir is taping a 30 minute profile with BET, securing airplay on major radio networks, and singing in front of 70,000 people at Creation East and another mega-audience at Bill Gaither’s Praise Gathering.

“One of the most compelling gifts that these kids have is the ability to draw anyone into their celebration,” says Alvin Richardson, Sandtown’s choir director. “No matter how young or how old, you just can't help being energized by their music. When they sing, they make you want to sing along. When they dance, they make you want to dance. When you mix that gift with their story -- their testimony about what they have overcome -- you get more than just a record... more than just a concert performance... you get to hear what hope sounds like!”

This week BET will be in the Sandtown-Winchester community to film a special for their program Lift Every Voice. The Sandtown choir will be featured for 30 minutes during the hour-long special on “Children in Music Ministry.” Forefront Records artist Lil iROCC Williams will be profiled in a separate segment.

While Sandtown recently sang for over 20,000 people at the Ichthus festival in Kentucky, their upcoming main stage performance at this summer’s Creation East will mark new territory for the children. The annual Pennsylvania event draws over 70,000 people each day. Upcoming highlights also include a performance at the Alive festival.

ABC Radio’s Rejoice! Musical Soul Food and SGN "The Light,” both nationally syndicated radio networks, have immediately added Sandtown to their rotation. Regarding Sandtown’s new album, Willie Mae McIver, the Mid-Day Host/Program Director of ABC Radio’s Rejoice! network says, “...a refreshing sound just in time for the summer! Good beats to go along with positive and uplifting lyrics. The young and 'young at heart' will definitely get into this project!" Meanwhile, Sandtown’s “Thank You” single has also been added at the Sunday morning show, Music of Love & Inspiration, which airs on Chicago’s #1 hip-hop and r&b station, WGCI 107.5. "I love every song on the Sandtown CD,” responds the program’s host, Effie Rolfe. “Not only does my core audience of (ages) 12 to 24 love it, but also the older adults as well. There's a message for everyone!"
