Meet the New Editor
04-18-2007
by Kevan Breitinger

It’s with great excitement and pleasure that I compose my first note to the CMCentral readers. I’m still casting up hallelujahs to the heavens for the opportunity to be a part of this strong community of Christians, Christian music fans, and committed writers. There’s also a bit of fear and trembling (the good kind!) as I know I’m stepping into some big shoes, so I ask for your prayers for my equipping, and even a quick learning curve!

A little Kevan info, for your perusing pleasure: three traits bring me to the respected CMCentral cyber-halls. I am, first and foremost, a God-lover. Secondly, I have been from day one a mad music-lover, and in a case of the second flowing from the first, have been an avid fan of Christian music for years.  Lastly, a third love of mine is writing. These three elements have combined fortuitously to bring me to this moment of eager and humble excitement, as the new Editor of CMCentral.com.

My writing background includes several years as contributing columnist for a few newspapers (a Faith column in the Phillie Daily News, and a pop-culture commentary for my local Jersey paper), a yearly devotional and a novel on the intersection of faith and addiction, contributing music writer on ChristianMusic.About.com, Grasssrootsmusic.com, and BuddyHollywood.com, as well as a year’s term as Editor of ChristianMusic.Suite101.com. I’m thrilled to be again involved with a website of quality workmanship and integrity.

Some of my earliest impressions, or, Things to Love About CMCentral.com include:

  • Reviews: The backbone of a Christian Music site, and I plan to build a solid, trustworthy base of artist reviews. Hey, all the great new music, what a perk for a music-lover!
  • Interviews: Brenten Gilbert did a fantastic job at connecting with the Christian artists we all enjoy, and I hope to continue in the same tradition of excellence.
  • Devotions: This fascinating section reminds us what, and Who, it’s all about. Keeping the Lord, and our worship of Him, as the center of our focus should keep us from tumbling down the slippery slopes of consumerism, commercialism, and celebrity-worship. I’m eager to help develop the devotional aspect of CMCentral.com.

I enjoy as well the podcasts, the excellent pop culture corner, and the very active forum community, and am looking forward to becoming a part of it all. Romans 12 tells us to “Take your everyday, ordinary life- your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life- and place it before God as an offering.”(The Message)  So with great anticipation, and that fear and trembling thing again, I lay before Him, and you, my hopes and dreams for my season at CMCentral.com, asking for and trusting for a blessing. For us all.

If you have any thoughts, feedback or suggestions I would love to hear from any and all of you!  You can write me at kevan@cmcentral.com
