Keep On Keepin' On

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”                         John 14:1-3

“Keep on keeping on!” – It’s a phrase that means don’t give up, or never quit, just keep doing what you’ve been doing. I used to hear it from my mom when I was worn out with practicing piano. How many scales, or boring classical songs did I have to continue to butcher? I remember thinking about anything other than sitting in that quiet room being forced to practice piano. It seemed like I would never get it or really want to get if for that matter, but my mom put her foot down and I’m thankful she did, I finally fell in love with it. Today I make my living in music and without her ‘encouraging’ words I’m sure I’d be doing something else.

“Keep on keeping on” is also what we are to do as believers. Jesus promised us in this verse in John that He would prepare a place for us and come back to get us, but until then, to ‘not let our hearts be troubled, but to trust in God and also in me’. We are to live obedient lives of worship and lean fully on what He has promised. Life gets crazy, but hang in there; put the important stuff first and keep on keepin’ on!

Father, please strengthen me to pursue You without hesitation. I’ll never have a more worthy goal than pleasing You.
