"Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." Isaiah 6:5
I love to see movies that in some way depict angels. From the disheveled and very unorganized Clarence in “It’s A Wonderful Life” to the more current powerful portrayals of angels in movies like “Constantine” or “City Of Angels”. Regardless of whether angels look and act like our neighbors down the street or if they have a huge wingspan and super-human strength, the truth is, they do exist. They are indeed mysterious and mighty, and Scripture says they attend to our needs. However, to me, the most beautiful and yet mysterious picture of angels we see in the Bible is the description in Isaiah 6.
Their only communication was worship, proclaiming the Lord’s holiness and His glory back and forth to each other. Later in that scripture it also says their voices were so strong and thunderous that the very foundations of the Temple shook and filled the area with smoke. More important than these amazing creatures is the atmosphere in which they live- holy and perfect. Isaiah says “I am undone or ruined”. It just gives us a tiny glimpse of humanness in the midst of holiness. We should worship more often like we just walked into God’s throne room. Who knows, we’re probably not alone anyway.
Father, I thank You for the creation of angels, and your amazing thoughtfulness in assigning our care to them. Your attention to detail, from nature to humanity to the Word, is breathtaking. Please cause me to walk through my day with sincere gratitude and reverence.
