30,000 Feet

For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.                                                                                                                                         2   Chronicles 16:9

I was recently on a flight above Dallas, TX, taking in all the lights and geography below and my mind began to ask those same questions that always come up when I’m 30,000 feet in the air.  No, not the ones that wonder if we’re going to make it or not, or even the ever popular, ‘Has my luggage joined me on this flight?’  But instead, ‘how could the Great God of the universe who created every tree and winding river, care about me?  How could the Master painter, who with a stroke of His finger brushed a mosaic on the earth of beautiful browns and greens and the waters blue, care about me?’

I think something that is possibly more miraculous than creation is how a holy, perfect and infinite God can see past all of His amazing creation, past the black of the universe, sorting through wondering planets and stars to earth, through the haze of our atmosphere and down through clouds and weather, all the way until His focus comes to rest on you. The gaze of God comes all the way down to your own heart, to the very place where nothing else can satisfy or substitute for His presence.   God is watching – are you living like it?

Lord God, the scope of Your power is hard for me to fully comprehend. What I do know is that You are amazing, breath-taking, and mighty beyond words. I thank You for Your great strength and perseverance. May Your watchful eyes find me honoring You always.
