E-Praise
Biography
E-Praise
Not only is Europe known for its predominant dance music culture, but even Sweden has put itself on the map with its exports. The Cardigans, Roxette, and ABBA have helped define the music that we associate with the Tundra. Pristine keyboards and harmonious layered vocals have long been a Swedish trademark, and now the widespread popularity of the techno is defining the trends in Scandinavian pop.
Mix-master Erik Augustsson of Ultrabeat ("Trip to a Planet Called Heaven" and "Beyond the Stars")has collaborated with New Born Soul's Hannah Westin in the E-Praise project, amassing some of the most popular worship songs onto one album, with a well-definied club feel. Songs like "Open the Eyes of My Heart" and "God of Wonders" find new breath in Erik's upbeat interpretations, and Hannah's soaring vocals. "Brandon Ebel asked me if I wanted to produce a girl-fronted electronic praise record for BEC-recordings, and I said yes right away." E-Praise continues well within Ultrabeat's normal range, as Erik has consistently played techno and house music with an evangelical message. "I've always liked to focus on Jesus and to praise him. I do that in the Ultrabeat concerts as well. I think it's fresh to praise the Lord with different styles of music, including techno and dance music."
Stylistically, E-Praise is shifting into a eurobeat sound with more of a house feel. Erik affirms that this sound "reaches out to a wider audience." Continuously hearing all the latest styles allows him to have unending influences that even stem out of his love for jazz and soul. "I get inspired by all the good stuff i Hear. I'm always reaching for a ound that's fresh, and to make high quality music." Choosing the songs was a sooperative effort between the label and Erik. As far as tailoring them into his own style, Erik had this to say. "You have to consider tempo, melody and beat. Apart from that, it's a matter of taste. It's also a challenge to make the songs in different styles, and to be creative." - Jeanette Strole |
